Activities throughout the Course of the Year
Recruiting Team (All Year)
Students make periodic visits to
area schools for recruiting and good will.
Fundraising (All Year)
Sell meat products, pecans,
poinsettias for funding club projects and activities.
Farm Management (Everyday)
Assist instructor and ranch
foreman in maintaining, organizing, and implementing management practices.
Carlisle Junior Livestock Show (January)
Open to any classification of student
to show cattle, swine, sheep, goats. Serve as arena assistants, assist superintendents,
etc., announcers.
Area FFA Convention (February)
Hosted 2001, 2000, 1999,
1995 (Over 900 in attendance)
Overton-New London Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet
(February)
Assist with meal preparation and
serving.
Livestock Judging Clinic (March)
Practice judging for 4H and FFA
Livestock Judging teams.
Rusk County Youth Project Show (March)
Serve as announcer, ring stewards,
arena assistants.
Kilgore FFA Project Show (April)
Serve as announcer, ring
stewards, arena assistants.
Soil, Plant Identification, and Woodlands Judging (April)
Host Rusk County and Smith County
contests; members grade, tabulate, serve as group leaders, etc.
"Go-Texan" Crawfish Boil (April)
Assists in serving and clean-up.
TJCAA Convention (April)
Participate in leadership and
academic contests, awards, officer elections. (Advantages
of Membership in the Texas Junior College Agriculture Association)
Award's Banquet (May)
Honor guests and dignitaries who
have assisted club during year.
Kiddie Day (May)
Annually hosts 800+ preschoolers
(ages 3-6) for livestock exhibits and farm tours.
Texas 4-H Roundup (June)
Assist exhibit booth for TJCAA
recruitment
Overton Annual Bluegrass and Gospel Music Festival
(June)
Club hosts a food booth and
assists in the sale of tickets.
Kilgore College Bull Performance Evaluation Tests (June -
March/April)
Three tests administered and
sponsored by Ag Club. Each test is 105 days to provide breeders from
Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana with data regarding rate of gain, soundness,
structural frame, muscling, and other traits of economic importance to beef
cattle producers. Also, assists in ultrasounding of all animals in each
test.

Exhibit booth for student
recruitment.
Area VI Longview District Agri-Science Teacher Meeting
(August)
Host agscience teaching from 30
area high schools in four counties.
Rusk County PRCA Rodeo (September)
Ushers, ticket sales, concession
stand workers.
Show Team (September - March)
Exhibit Angus cattle at various
major livestock shows (East Texas State, State Fair of Texas, Houston Livestock
Show and Fort Worth Stock Show).
Harvest Festival Livestock Judging Contest (October)
Organize, administer, grade,
tabulate, contest.
Waskom FFA Leadership Contest (November)
Members and advisor judge creed
speaking contest.
Christmas Parade (end of November, beginning of December)
Organize, plan, and build
award-winning floats with educational and agricultural theme for Kilgore,
Henderson, Overton, and Arp Christmas Parades.
Club Christmas Party (December)
Collect gifts for underprivileged
children; games, exchange gifts, fellowship.
FFA Dances (Occasionally)
Sponsored FFA, 4-H dances at Rusk
County Ag Center for area youth.
