About the Instructor
Mr. Young brings a multi-faceted background of experienced instruction, agribusiness, agricultural production, and community leadership to his position at Kilgore College. In addition, he travels countless miles each year with students to meetings or service activities, breed association functions, and academic consultation with other college administrators, all for the benefit of students at Kilgore College. Mr. Young, as instructor, encourages all students in his classes to uphold good personal and work ethics. Mr. Young is past president of the Overton-New London Chamber of Commerce, the Henderson Rotary Club, and is current president of the Rusk County Rodeo Association. He serves on the Rusk County "Go Texan" Committee, which earns academic scholarships for local students through the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Mr. Young often sacrifices his spring break to serve as Steer Superintendent for the Rusk County Youth Project Show. He is also president of the Parish Council for Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Overton. Mr. Young is a recipient of the 2001 Hamilton F. and Kathryn G. Beeson Award for Excellence in Teaching at Kilgore College, 2000 Who's Who in Executive and Business, 1998 Who's Who Among America's Teachers, Volunteer of the Year award by the Overton-New London Chamber of Commerce, 1981 Distinguished Service Award by the Vocational Agriculture Teacher Association of Texas, and 1981 Outstanding Spokesman for Agriculture by the Texas Association of Young Farmers, along with many other honors bestowed upon him. He is also past president of the Texas-Louisiana Aglime and Fertilizer Association 1990-91. Mr. Young is a recipient of the coveted Honorary Lone Star Farmer Degree. For four of the past six years, Mr. Young has been the State Advisor for the Texas Junior College Agriculture Association (TJCAA), an honor afforded the teacher whose student is elected State President. He encourages KC Agriculture Club members to seek leadership positions in the local club and the state organization. A stickler for excellence, Mr. Young encourages his students to utilize strong academic initiative in all their class work and exercise good judgment elsewhere. Mr. Young is married to the former Alice Schmidt. They have two daughters, Christie and Kara, who are responsible for the creation of the goat band at the College Farm through donation of their 4-H projects. If you would like to ask Mr. Young for more information about the KC Ag programs, please e-mail address or call him at (903) 834-6255.
